Most research does not fail because of a bad idea. It fails because there is no plan between the idea and the deadline. Weeks pass in reading, and nothing gets written. A simple 12-week roadmap fixes that by turning one big goal into small, visible steps.
Month 1: Clarify (Weeks 1 to 4)
The goal of month one is a one-page research plan.
- Week 1: Write your topic as a problem: who, where, and what outcome. Collect 3 to 5 recent review papers.
- Week 2: Build a literature matrix of 15 to 25 core studies.
- Week 3: Name your research gap and its type. Draft your aim.
- Week 4: Write 3 to 4 research questions with matching objectives. Get feedback from a supervisor or mentor.
Month 2: Design (Weeks 5 to 8)
The goal of month two is a methods plan you can defend.
- Week 5: Choose qualitative, quantitative, or mixed methods based on your questions.
- Week 6: Define your sample, sampling method, and data sources.
- Week 7: Draft your survey or interview guide. Pilot it with 3 to 5 people.
- Week 8: Prepare ethics documents and write the methodology section of your proposal.
Month 3: Execute (Weeks 9 to 12)
The goal of month three is real progress on data and writing.
- Weeks 9 to 10: Start data collection, or finalise your secondary dataset.
- Week 11: Write your introduction and literature review draft while data comes in.
- Week 12: Review progress against your plan and set the next 90-day roadmap.
Three habits that keep the roadmap alive
- Weekly output, not weekly hours. End every week with something written: a page, a table, a list of sources.
- Fixed review points. Book feedback at weeks 4, 8, and 12 so problems surface early.
- One bottleneck at a time. If you are stuck, name the single thing blocking you and solve only that.
Why working alone slows you down
Without outside feedback, small mistakes, like a vague question or a mismatched method, grow into months of rework. A mentor spots them in minutes.
Build your roadmap with a mentor
The Research Blueprint Lab is built around exactly this structure: a one-day hands-on session to diagnose your gap, 32 recorded classes, and a guided three-month roadmap for your own project. Batches are capped at six participants so every researcher gets individual feedback from Dr. Atiqur Rahman Sunny. Need more time? The Research Growth Intensive extends this to a personalised one-year roadmap.
